A LETTER TO PARENTS AND STUDENTS
SPANISH II –MS. LEDESMA
COURSE CONTENT:
In the second year of Spanish students will continue to enhance their
knowledge in the four basic areas of communication: listening, speaking,
reading and writing. They are expected to have some understanding of the
Spanish language prior to this course, as they will be exposed to more
complex reading and writing assignments. Students will have opportunities
to learn about the daily lives of people in various Spanish-speaking
countries. In addition, language skills will be reinforced through video
segments, reading selections, music and cultural notes.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Textbook Realidades 2, Practice Workbook, three-ring binder, binder paper,
dark ink pen, Spanish-English dictionary. The Spanish binder will include
the following sections: warm ups, class work, worksheets, and video entries.
ASSIGNMENTS:
Written assignments must be neat and complete. Students will be asked to do
oral presentations individually and in small groups. The point value will
vary according to the difficulty of the assignment. Projects as well as Oral
presentations must be done during class time on the due date in order to
receive full credit. Late work will not be accepted.
ASSESSMENT:
There will be vocabulary and grammar quizzes and/or chapter exams.
Students will take a final exam at the end of each semester. The final exam
is worth 20 % of the semester grade.
ATTENDANCE AND MAKE-UP WORK:
It is the student's responsibility to complete all missed assignments: quizzes,
tests and projects as soon as possible. Students who are absent, must excuse
absences and complete all missed work within three days of absence.
GRADING POLICY:
Student grades are determined by given points, earned on individual
assignments. Each assignment is worth a specific number of points
depending on difficulty and time allotted. The following grading scale
applies to every assignment.
90 - 100 = A
80 - 89 = B Test/ Quizzes/ Projects 64 %
70 - 79 = C Assignments & Participation 16 %
60 - 69 = D Final Exam 20 %
Below 60 = F
CLASS RULES AND PROCEDURES:
· Come to class on time, prepared with all supplies and homework complete.
· Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
· Listen to teacher and others' presentations attentively.
· Respect every one in the classroom and use kind words.
· Follow directions and participate in class activities.
· Follow school and class policies.
· Enjoy food, gum or drinks outside the classroom.
· Do not use electronic devices inside the classroom
PARTICIPATION:
I expect you to contribute in a positive way to our classroom community.
Be a respectful citizen culturally, globally, ethically and physically. Create
original work, start and complete projects promptly, take responsibility of
your own work and learning, know how to work independently as well as
collaboratively (know the difference). Follow the direction of school
personnel. Follow district, school and classroom policies. Academic
dishonesty and inappropriate behavior will be handled according to
the Student Handbook.
